Marley Team News

3/9/08 Robert Loudon

Latest news from Marley Land.
There was a very good turn out at Clober- 6 on the team and 3 reserves. Thanks to the boys for being so enthusiastic and supportive of the team. It does make selection difficult but the team was duly dispatched onto Clober in ascending handicap order. However we had to call the teams back in after 9 holes as a Monsoon descended upon us. It did not clear up. Taking the status of the matches into account, the relative positions of the team in the league and the difficulty of fitting a re- match in a halved match was declared.

Latest results from Marley Land.

With the lower handicap Marley players contending in the Junior Strokeplay championship the younger team members again gave a creditable performance to salvage a home half against Douglas Park.

The team half was thanks to a magnificent birdie 3 (excellent drive, good pitch and tremendous putt from 15 to 20ft) from Gavin Clark on the 18th hole of the final match to win his match and square the result. Talk about taking it to the wire. His team mates were all around to add to the pressure- well done Gavin. However it is a team match and others more than played their part.

Good wins from Euan O'Neil and Lewis Reid. Lewis is now topping the Marley Team rankings this season.

Good performances from Ross Hardie, Drew Coyle and John Little against on-form opposition from Douglas Park. There were Juniors from DP driving the green on the 11th, and almost on the 14th- hard to beat.

Lewis Banks now has a few reserve matches under his belt as he progresses from blue tees to the longer course.

The team played against Hilton Park today (10th August 2008) and despite the absence of their elder and lower handicapped brethren a very young team put up a creditable and spirited performance against strong opposition. The team deserves a special mention:
Drew Coyle,
Ross Hardie,
Lewis Reid (who was the only winner on the team- but no hole in one this time),
John Little,
Mark Elderfield
Lewis Banks

Well done to them all for turning out and playing well in pretty poor conditions, hence no photos of the team.

24/6/08 From Robert Louden

An excellent start for the under 15's. The Marley Team held their first match of the year away at Bearsden. It was last Sunday-in between the heavy showers. The team lost the first three matches but the younger members of the team rallied to win the last 3 matches. Well done to them. This secured an Away half and a well deserved two points. This was even more impressive givent the fact that some of the team were caught out with the quirky double flag and double green set up at Bearsden (that must be a real home team advantage). Will keep you posted with the teams progress with the next matches.
